Florida Peacock Bass fishing has been great lately. We've been out quite a few times over the last month. Each time out we've caught about 15 to 20 peacock bass mostly on shiners and some on lures. I've had clients from South Africa this month which is incredible. Last week Tim Gray caught this nice 4 lb. Amazon Peacock Bass in Miami.

Lake Okeechobee Bass Guide

Bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee is still quite good even though the water temperature is in the high 80's. We were out on Monday September 13, 2010 for a fun day of bass fishing. My fishing buddy and I landed about 12 largemouth in a half-day before the bugs and the heat chased us off the water. I landed this nice fish that is just shy of 5 lbs. on a senko on the east wall out of Clewiston.

Last week I had Jim Hartenstein for about the fifth time along with his son-in-law Shawn from Nashville for a half-day. The guys landed 12 Butterfly Peacock Bass up to 4 lbs. all on shiners. The Miami canals are produced fairly well for this late in the summer. The best time is late spring through mid summer in South Florida for all bass species.

South Florida Peacock Bass fishing over the last few months has been o'kay considering the hot weather. We were out twice the last two weeks and boated about 30 peacock bass up to 4 lbs. The slight winter kill has affected the number somewhat but these fish are rebounding already evidenced by all the 3 to 4inch fish I'm seeing everywhere. South Florida Everglades Bass Fishing

Here's Tim Gray's nice 6 lb. bass caught a few weeks back. We caught about 50 bass that day and it was slow! The wind had died down which makes it somewhat harder. The Everglades bass fishing is good when the water levels drop and wind and clouds blow in. The more usually the better. Boat control can become a problem but the old drift sock always helps. Hopefully all my other guide buddies will read this and copy my blogs like they have in the past and they know who they are! We have a real bunch of pieces of work down here so be careful if you're considering a guide service in South Florida and not just an outfitter.

Everglades Largemouth Bass Fishing

It's been an awesome spring and would have been even better had the rain let up. It was also colder than normal which slowed things down in early part of spring. We've been catching about 50 to 75 largemouth bass on every trip and some up to 8 lbs. Here's a nice 8 lb. bass caught by Capt. Chuck on alligator alley in early April. Florida Peacock Bass

Robert Lopez and his cousin Robert from New York city were quite pleased to land about 20 peacocks for a half-day trip in late May. The winter fish kill has slowed down the numbers somewhat but we're still managing decent numbers considering. Next spring we should be fine because I'm seeing plenty of fry meaning the hatch was good. Peacocks muture quickly and grow at a rate of 10 inches per year! Florida Peacock Bass

Here's another nice day of peacock bass fishing about two weeks ago. My clients from Tennessee have been down with me about 5 times and have also fished in the Amazon and caught some giant peacocks. After that trip I can't understand why they would want to catch these size fish! But hey Peacock Bass are always a hoot. We boated about 18 fish for the day which is alittle slower than normal for this time of year but they had a blast.

The Peacock Bass fishing is starting to heat up after all this cold weather we've experienced. Our night time temperatures were dropping into the the 40's some nights. If our water temperatures drop below 60 degrees the peacock bass have to find warmer water or they will die. The northern sections of their range did experience a substantial fish kill, fortunately the southern areas didn't get hit as bad. It's will take a few years in the areas north of Ft. Lauderdale for the fish levels to re-populate. South Florida Everglades Bass Fishing

Luis Rojas on Wednesday March 24, 2010 caught this beautiful 7 lb. beauty on the canals of alligator alley. Each week will only get better as water levels drop and heat up after this cold winter we've had. Everyday you can expect to catch between 50 and 100 bass if the conditions are right.

Everglades Largemouth Bass Fishing

It's ben an outstanding few weeks of bass fishing in the South Florida Everglades. We've been fishing a half a dozen times and have been boated 50 to 100 fish each time out. Most of these bass were small a few weeks back but now the size is improving. Here's a nice 5 lb. fish we landed about a week ago.

Judd Webb from Chicago and I were out on Monday March 8, 2010 for Largemouth Bass in the South Florida Everglades. We landed probably 60 bass up to 3 lbs. The larger fish will start to eat real soon when the water drops and heats up about 10 degrees which doesn't take long in southern Florida. It's been a great few months in South Florida for Peacock Bass fishing. I just wish this cold weather would let up, because the fishing would be even better. We've had nights in the low 40's which could kill these Amazon cichlids if the fish can't find warmer water. On November 3rd I had two clients from Iowa who were happy to be in our weather. The two guys caught over 40 peacocks with this beauty at 7 lbs. which was John's first fish of the morning. South Florida Peacock Bass Fishing

We've had multiple fishing trips for peacock bass in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami canals this summer and have done quite well. Peacocks will usually bite no matter how hot it gets in South Florida. Native of Brazil and a tropical species, heat will get them feeding quite well. We usually recommend live bait because they will eat shiners much better than lures. The last trip I had we used all artificial bait and caught this beautiful butterfly from a Miami canal. As we head into winter the bigger peacocks should start to spawn again very shallow. Now that the water is heating up our South Florida Peacock Bass waters should be wonderful for catching these beautiful Amazon fish. We are the only place in the continental U.S. that these fish can be caught. Hot water keeps the fish very active which we are finally experiencing. We had quite a few colder evening which will put these fish into shock. Once the water gets into the high seventies the spawning ritual begins and should last late into the summer until the rain shuts down the fishing again. The Everglades of South Florida for bass fishing is getting better everyday. Each week we've catching many fish with days over 100 largemouth bass. They have been mostly small but today Mike Greico from New York City boated this pig weighing in at 8 lbs. We only caught maybe 30 fish with this monster being the only good keeper. South Florida Everglades bass fishing is heating up even though the water and weather is cooling off. The water levels are dropping and cooling off to the point where the bass are entering the pre-spawn mode. It's going to be an early fishing season for catching huge numbers and hopefully large bass this spring. Tim & Heather Gray along with Scott Eynon decided to Peacock Bass fishing on Tuesday. They landed 7 fish up to 4 lbs. which Heather was the champ! We fished about 6 hours and fishing was a little tough because of the cooler water. Each day will improve as the weather gets hotter. We did happen to see quite a few bigger male peacocks getting ready to spawn. Peacock bass fishing over the last couple weeks has been outstanding in South Florida around the Miami area. We've had three trips and all these trips have produced quite well. On Friday I had Jim Boone of Alabama and Jim boated 13 peacock bass in about 5 hours of fishing. Jim caught all his fish on shiners with one nice fish just shy of 5 lbs. It's been awhile that we've been out in the Everglades Bass fishing this year. Plaqued by high water it's been tough bass fishing everywhere in South Florida. Water levels dictate the quality of the largemouth fishing except on Lake Okeechobee. We decided to try the Holy land wildlife refuge yesterday and did o'kay. My partner Capt. Victor Cole and I landed about 20 small bass in a half-day all on plastics up to 5 1/2 lbs. With falling water levels starting any day now the bass fishing in South Florida should improve.
