Lake Okeechobee Bass Guide

Bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee is still quite good even though the water temperature is in the high 80's. We were out on Monday September 13, 2010 for a fun day of bass fishing. My fishing buddy and I landed about 12 largemouth in a half-day before the bugs and the heat chased us off the water. I landed this nice fish that is just shy of 5 lbs. on a senko on the east wall out of Clewiston.

Peacock Bass fishing South Florida

Last week I had Jim Hartenstein for about the fifth time along with his son-in-law Shawn from Nashville for a half-day. The guys landed 12 Butterfly Peacock Bass up to 4 lbs. all on shiners. The Miami canals are produced fairly well for this late in the summer. The best time is late spring through mid summer in South Florida for all bass species.

South Florida Peacock Bass fishing over the last few months has been o'kay considering the hot weather. We were out twice the last two weeks and boated about 30 peacock bass up to 4 lbs. The slight winter kill has affected the number somewhat but these fish are rebounding already evidenced by all the 3 to 4inch fish I'm seeing everywhere. Here's a nice fish caught in the end of August by my honeymoon couple from California.

South Florida Everglades Bass Fishing

Here's Tim Gray's nice 6 lb. bass caught a few weeks back. We caught about 50 bass that day and it was slow! The wind had died down which makes it somewhat harder. The Everglades bass fishing is good when the water levels drop and wind and clouds blow in. The more usually the better. Boat control can become a problem but the old drift sock always helps. Hopefully all my other guide buddies will read this and copy my blogs like they have in the past and they know who they are! We have a real bunch of pieces of work down here so be careful if you're considering a guide service in South Florida and not just an outfitter.

Florida Peacock Bass

Here's another nice day of peacock bass fishing about two weeks ago. My clients from Tennessee have been down with me about 5 times and have also fished in the Amazon and caught some giant peacocks. After that trip I can't understand why they would want to catch these size fish! But hey Peacock Bass are always a hoot. We boated about 18 fish for the day which is alittle slower than normal for this time of year but they had a blast.

Luis Rojas on Wednesday March 24, 2010 caught this beautiful 7 lb. beauty on the canals of alligator alley. Each week will only get better as water levels drop and heat up after this cold winter we've had. Everyday you can expect to catch between 50 and 100 bass if the conditions are right.

South Florida Peacock Bass Fishing

We've had multiple fishing trips for peacock bass in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami canals this summer and have done quite well. Peacocks will usually bite no matter how hot it gets in South Florida. Native of Brazil and a tropical species, heat will get them feeding quite well. We usually recommend live bait because they will eat shiners much better than lures. The last trip I had we used all artificial bait and caught this beautiful butterfly from a Miami canal. As we head into winter the bigger peacocks should start to spawn again very shallow. Peacock bass fishing over the last couple weeks has been outstanding in South Florida around the Miami area. We've had three trips and all these trips have produced quite well. On Friday I had Jim Boone of Alabama and Jim boated 13 peacock bass in about 5 hours of fishing. Jim caught all his fish on shiners with one nice fish just shy of 5 lbs. It's amazing to me how South Florida outfitters who don't have an original thought in their head will do anything to copy other guides in South Florida. I've just found a copy cat company who has copied my blog because he doesn't have any class. He's been known to do this through the industry. He says he's been family owned and operated for 27 years when he just bought his first bass boat about 7 years ago. Interesting from selling tools on a truck to being in business for 27 years? I wish people would just mind their own business. Well we have been doing quite well peacock bass fishing this week and we are going out again Thursday. Tomorrow it's off to the Everglades for Largemouth bass where we've been catching 40 to 60 bass a day. Today Hugh & Ruth Spegiel landed 38 peacock bass to 4 lbs. in Miami. The colors and layout of this companies blog is exact as ours, now that's interesting?

South Florida Peacock & Bass Fishing Reports 4-25-08

The peacock bass & largemouth bass fishing in the South Florida Everglades and Miami has been great lately. We fished the C-4 canal and boated peacock bass to 4 lbs. on Tuesday April 22nd. On Wednesday April 23rd we were out on alligator alley and boated 45 largemouth bass to 4 lbs also. As each day goes by the fishing will get better as the bigger fish will start to bite good now.

South Florida Peacock Bass Reports 4-18-08

Peacock Bass fishing in Miami continues to produce good numbers and size fish. We were out Friday April 18th and Tuesday April 22nd and had a great 2 days. Friday the guys boated 28 peacock bass to 5 1/4lbs. and today we boated 16 fish to 4 lbs. It is getting better by the day with the best days ahead of us. Bass fishing in the South Florida Everglades is getting great now that the rain is slowing down. Jim Reed and his buddy Barry were out Monday Aprill 21 st and boated 68 largemouth bass to 4 lbs. and we missed as many. South Florida Bass Fishing 3-28-08

Paul and Pauley Petan from Chicago fished today with us and we boated close to 50 largemouth bass. Florida Everglades fishing in the Ft. Lauderdale areas are getting great right now with the water getting warm and water levels dropping. We caught all of our fish on plastic baits fishing the lily pads and canal drop offs. South Florida Bass Fishing 3-27-08

Today Brent Hill from Tennessee fished with us in the South Florida Everglades for largemouth bass. Brent and I landed over 40 bass all on plastic senkos and homemade plastic worms. The water levels are dropping and heating up flushing the bass from the flats and to the edges of the canal lily pads. The next two to three months should be the best time of this year to catch plenty of nice fish like this beautiful 6 lber caught by Brent today! South Florida Peacock & Bass Fishing Reports 2-5-08

It's been a great week for bass fishing and peacock bass fishing in South Florida. Lenny Sortino from Boston fished with us for 3 days. Lenny has been here for his third time. We fished Lake Ida and the surrounding canals for largemouth bass on day one. Lenny and I boated 20 bass up to 4 lbs. Day 2 and 3 Lenny wanted Peacock Bass in Miami and he boated 19 peacocks over two days of fishing. Peacock bass and Largemouth bass in South Florida will be biting great over the next few weeks if the weather stays warm. With hot weather peacock bass will start to spawn and be quite shallow and easy to catch. Warmer weather will also lower the water levels in the Florida Everglades here in South Florida causing the bass to retreat from the flats and be easy targets in the canals.

South Florida Peacock & Bass Fishing Reports 12-4-07

Today we were out trying out some new canals we've never fished before for Peacock Bass. With a little cold front coming through this morning the Peacock Bass were tough in the morning. As the day went by though the Peacock Bass became active and the pictures show the day we had. We managed 12 nice Peacock Bass up to 5 lbs. Not bad for our first time on this different system. All of these fish were caught with rattletraps in very shallow water. It's staying quite warm in South Florida which should heat up our bass and peacock bass fishing in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale lakes and canals. Lake Okeechobee and the South Florida Everglades bass fishing will improve now that our raining season is over with no threats of hurricanes!
